How is the program implemented?
Beyond the Game Youth Leadership Inc. (BTG) aligns with Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) standards by helping students develop skills they can use both on and off the playing field. BTG focuses on areas such as self-awareness, managing emotions, building confidence, communication, teamwork, empathy, leadership, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making. Through sports psychology, leadership activities, mentorship, real-life case studies, reflection, and group discussions, students have opportunities to practice these skills in situations they may actually experience at school, in sports, with friends, and at home. BTG does not view SEL as simply another lesson students have to complete; instead, it uses athletics and everyday student experiences as a way to make these skills meaningful and practical. The goal is to help students understand themselves, work effectively with others, handle challenges, and make positive decisions that support their academic, personal, social, and athletic growth.
This program is implemented in many facets. Athletic teams, physical education classes, advisory or homeroom, after school programs, and summer leadership academies
